  • Overview

    Job Summary

     

    - Serve as a top technical expert and participate in setting the overall product direction on assigned systems.  Address and resolve the most complex problems tied to the underlying design/architecture of specific platforms.

     - Analyze the impact of new hardware and software deployments on established systems/platforms.  Develop recommendations that minimize the impact of deployments on existing production environments.

     - Lead the implementation of assigned projects in their area of expertise.  Develop time, cost, and resource estimates for completing assigned projects.  Recommend team members for projects based on their capabilities and experience.

     - Serve as a subject-matter expert on project teams.  Recommend solutions to integrate business applications with existing systems/platforms.  Complete technical assignments and assign work to other systems administrators.

     - Design, code, test, and implement special software required by system and platform deployments, including program exits, utilities, and scripts.  Document the purpose, impact, and use of all custom programming for developers, systems administrators, and end-users as appropriate.

     - Participate in the development of service level agreements for assigned systems/platforms.  Monitor availability, reliability, and performance results against established SLA criteria, resolving problems as they arise.  Prepare SLA metrics for monthly service level reports.

     - Establish overall standards for assigned platforms in collaboration with Systems Administrator Coordinators, including configuration, naming convention, server security product, anti-virus, enterprise printing, file-sharing, and phase-out standards.

     - Plan life-cycles for server/platform hardware based on manufacturer recommendations, usage levels, and life expectancies.

     - Set platform security policies with the Security team, including password requirements, system audits, lockout policies, and system administrator access.  Ensure all policies comply with KHN standards, HIPPA requirements, and other healthcare compliance regulations.

     - Configure remote access to systems/platforms based on business requirements, including email, mobile device, external web, and VPN solutions.  Secure remote access technologies with all applicable safeguards.

     - Re-evaluate platform products for replacement with better solutions.  Work with vendors to evaluate new technologies and proof-of-concept systems in the areas of reliability, efficiency, performance, and compatibility within the KHN IT environment.

     - Research and evaluate new technologies to deliver new capabilities and increase the effectiveness of KHN business functions.  Work with end-users to investigate system/platform solutions for specific business needs.

     - Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve functionality and performance problems.

     - Orient new systems administration team members and cross-train team members on system/platform hardware, software, support utilities, and related equipment.

     - Perform Systems Administrator I and II duties as required.

    Responsibilities & Requirements

    Educational Requirements

    - 2 year Associate's degree or equivalent IT certification or experience required

     - 5-7 years of related systems administration experience

     - Advanced certifications in assigned systems/platforms

     - Experience with network administration and related management utilities

     - Extensive operating system, server, and SAN expertise

     - Understanding of emerging technologies and their integration into existing business processes

     - IS experience in a healthcare environment preferred
