    Overview:

    KPN/Far Oaks Orthopedists is looking for a Certified Athletic Trainer to assist our new Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Physician in treating patients with sports-related injuries, as well as with general orthopedic issues, in our clinics.

     

    Job Summary:

    Under the supervision of the physician, performs all clinical functions (athletic training and orthopedic technician) in the office setting (e.g. splinting, casting, dressing functions, providing home exercise protocols), and performs medical assistant duties (e.g. charting, vitals, preparing injections, scheduling surgery). May be requested to substitute for other clinic personnel.  Any other assigned duties by physician(s) or Practice Administrator/Manager.

     

    Educational Requirements:

    Completion of an approved education program in athletic training and/or related health science field, and a State of Ohio Athletic Trainer license certification required. 2-3 years’ experience in an out-patient orthopedic/sports medicine facility preferred.  Previous experience working with athletic populations required.

     

    Job Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

    • Performs all clinical functions as directed by the Administrator, Manager or Team Leader/Supervisor as related to patient care in the office setting.
    • Assist Physician in the clinics. Removes and applies casts, dressing changes, suture removal, any other orthopedic clinical procedures trained and requested to perform.
    • Responds to written and telephone inquiries from patient and carriers regarding all aspects of the patient’s care, as directed by the practice’s protocols.
    • Obtains precertification/preauthorization from insurance companies prior to surgery for each procedure and test, using an online application or by contacting insurer on the telephone.
    • Coordinates all business and clinical paperwork prior to surgery, using physician-approved forms and checklists; has paperwork completed prior to the day of surgery.
    • Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice.
    • Attends continuing education courses as required/requested.
    • Attends all regular staff meetings.
    • Completes all other duties as assigned by the Administrator, Manager or Team Leader/Supervisor.
