Job Summary

Responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of all external media and public relations activities for Kettering Health. Establishes and executes a proactive communications strategy using various platforms in order to generate strategic coverage of Kettering Health. Serves as the network's primary point of contact for all media, working closely with department leadership to ensure that system leaders are adequately brief, informed, and prepared for media activity. 

 

Reports to Manager of Communications and Public Relations

 

Work Environment

Business. Job requires comfort level with fast-moving projects and deadlines. There may be periods o fmeeting deadlines with severe tmie ontstraints, often with multiple demands that may require extended hours and management of critical projects remotely outside of regular business hours. 

 

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive public relations strategy that will enhance Kettering Health's image and position within the marketplace and the general public
  • Ensure that external stakeholders are communicated wtih and kept informed of Kettering Health's activities, initiatives, and accomplishments
  • Serve as mentor to other communications team members, particularly on the topic of dealing with the media
  • Effectively source and manage externalmedia relationships so resources are appropriately focused on strategic efforts
  • Serve as the initial point of contact for press inquireies and requests for information, developing and executing appropriate responses
  • Function as an essential memeber of the team that facilitates crisis communications planning and management
  • Demostrate knowledge of, and adherence to, all Kettering Health plicies and procedures
  • Handle crisis communications in confident manner with little direction
  • Establish and maintain working contact lists for media and proactively reach out to enhance relationships, while maintaining database of press contacts
  • Draft press releases and editorial content that support messaging strategy while effectively reaching target audiences
  • Maintain records of and report on media gained

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

Job Requirements

  • Minimum education: Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, marketing, and/or journalism required
  • Minimum work experience: 3-7 years experience in field. Direct experience in media relations required, healthcare experience preferred. 
  • Prefer Accreditation in Public Relations (APR)
