Responsibilities & Requirements

The Culinary Associate II/Barista:

The duties of the Barista will include working closely with their team and production staff to make coffee drinks per recipe and prepare food if served at their location. The Barista’s duties include engaging with customers in a personable and service-oriented manner to build trusting and caring relationships with our guests. They must also be able to operate a computer and point of sale system requiring cash, credit, and payroll deduction transactions. Baristas may also need to spend extra time perfecting certain recipes and learning new ones to consistently serve our customers. Baristas will maintain food safety and a clean work environment.

  • Greet Customers as they enter
  • Answer questions regarding ingredients and different drinks and sandwiches
  • Take orders while paying attention to details (e.g., preferences of coffee blend, dairy, and sugar ratios)
  • Prepare beverages following recipes
  • Serve beverages and prepare food, like cookies, pastries, and muffins
  • Receive and process payments (cash, credit cards, employee badges)
  • Count and consolidate drawer at the end of the shift
  • Keep coffee area clean
  • Maintain stock of all paper and food items
  • Check if brewing equipment operates properly and report any maintenance needs
  • Comply with health and safety regulations
  • Communicate customer feedback to managers and recommend new menu items
  • Maintain clean work environment
  • Build good relationships with customers 
  • Keep supplies replenished to minimize downtime

Job Qualifications:

Able to walk and stand for long periods of time

Able to push and pull wheeled carts

Able to communicate effectively and follow oral and written instructions

Able to tolerate frequent temperature changes, working around equipment that generates heat, steam and cold

 

Skills:

Listen well and communicate in a professional and friendly manner

Focus on customer satisfaction

Practice basic safety procedures with respect to equipment and handling hot beverages

Be efficient and organized

 

New Hire/Annual Competencies:

  • Employee uses PPE per Culinary and Nutrition Care policy (KH Nutrition Personal Protective Equipment).
  • Employee provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers, per KH standards (KH Nutrition Customer Service).
  • Employee washes hands per KH policy (KH Nutrition Handwashing and Glove Usage)
  • Employee must complete all monthly and annual Mandatory Education

Preferred Qualifications

High school diploma or GED preferred. 
Food service or customer service experience preferred

Experience working with an espresso machine is a plus
