Responsibilities & Requirements

This is a Retail Pharmacist (Float) position responsible for providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care across multiple retail pharmacy locations within the health system. This role involves accurately processing prescriptions, counseling patients, managing pharmacy inventory, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and health system standards. The pharmacist will also act as a key resource to the healthcare team, ensuring safe and effective medication use while maintaining high standards of customer service and operational efficiency.  Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

  • Accurately process, fill, and dispense prescription medications in accordance with state and federal regulations and health system policies.
  • Counsel patients on the proper use of both prescription and over the counter (OTC) medications, including potential side effects, interactions, and proper storage.
  • Act as a resource for physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals regarding drug therapies, dosing guidelines, and medication alternatives.
  • Oversee pharmacy inventory, including monitoring stock levels, ensuring proper storage conditions, and managing expired or recalled medications.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medication histories, allergies, and clinical interventions.
  • Supervise and direct the work of pharmacy technicians and pharmacy interns, ensuring proper workflow and adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal drug laws, including proper handling of controlled substances and adherence to health system protocols.
  • Participate in pharmacy quality improvement initiatives, including medication safety reviews, audits, and process improvements.
  • Educate patients and healthcare providers on new medications and drug shortages.
  • Adapt quickly to varying workflows and pharmacy environments while maintaining a high level of professionalism and accuracy.
  • Serve as a liaison between the pharmacy and other departments to resolve medication-related issues and support coordinated patient care.

Job Responsibilities

  • Accurately process, fill, and dispense prescriptions
  • Provide pharmaceutical information to multidisciplinary health care team; counsel patients and customers on both prescription and OTC medication use
  • Oversee all pharmacy inventory, record keeping, and accounting
  • Supervise pharmacy technicians; organize and direct technicians’ work flow

Job Qualifications

  • Graduated from an accredited school of pharmacy with either a B.S. in Pharmacy or a PharmD
  • Active State of Ohio pharmacist license
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
