Responsibilities & Requirements

The primary purpose of the Pharmacy Technician Coordinator position is to manage, develop and plan the professional, operational and performance improvement

activities of the Pharmacy Services Department, as they relate to the Pharmacy Technicians. This individual also assists the Operations Manager of Pharmacy Services in the planning and direction of the Pharmacy Services Department. Train others to perform responsibilities of a pharmacy technician. Periods of meeting deadlines with severe time constraints, often with multiple demands from several people. Interaction will occur with a wide range of people including, but not necessarily limited to, representatives of governmental agencies, accrediting organizations, patients, medical staff, hospital personnel, visitors, etc. Work responsibilities will result in a range of activities, standing, bending, lifting, and moving intermittently throughout working hours. Other duties as assigned.

 

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required

Work Experience

  • Previous 5 years of hospital or institutional experience is preferred.
  • Proficiencies in Microsoft Suite applications is required (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams)

Licenses, Certifications and Registrations

  • Registration with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy as a Registered Certified Pharmacy Technician is required for this position. This include a current CPhT Certification with either PTCB or ExCPT credential

Skills

 

Previous experience or ability to grow skill sets related to the following topics will be expected:

  • EPIC Health Information System, Omnicell, Homebase Scheduling Applications, Repackaging Technologies,
  • Sterile IV Compounding, Sterile Chemotherapy Compounding.

Essential Functions 

  • Coordinates and performs general pharmacy technician duties in the assigned area as required
  • Assists in the day-to-day supervision, scheduling, payroll and attendance maintenance, administration of disciplinary action, and evaluation of technical personnel
  • Participates in recruitment activities, decisions to hire or terminate and evaluation of technical personnel
  • Understanding of pharmacy operations, procedures and equipment
  • Coordinates technician orientation, training, security access to pharmacy systems and in-service education with regards to respective areas. Assists the operations manager with competency assessment and documentation
  • Monitors employees to assure they comply with USP 795, 797 and 800 regulations, PATT testing
  • Coordinates and assigns timely monthly completion of unit inspections, outdates
  • Assists the pharmacy buyer with purchasing, inventory management of NDC, bar code scanning and other duties as assigned to procure drug products

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in Administration preferred
  • Completion of a Certified Technician training program is preferred but not required.
