Responsibilities & Requirements

The Manager of Pharmacy Residency will be responsible for managing the pharmacy residency programs and acute care clinical pharmacists at KHMC and KHDO. The Manager of Pharmacy Residency will also help with the development of drug use protocols, therapeutic interchanges, drug usage evaluations, and other projects assigned by pharmacy administration and the system Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee.

 

Essential Functions 

  • Manages the planning and operations of the pharmacy residency programs at KHMC and KHDO which includes, but is not limited to:
    • Maintaining the programs to meet ASHP Residency
    • Leading and coordinating recruitment efforts for pharmacy residents
    • Overseeing residency applications, interviews and participation in National Match
    • Maintaining and updates program syllabi, policies, and Residency Program Manual as needed
    • Coordinating hiring and onboarding of pharmacy residents
    • Supervising and approving pharmacy resident time cards and rotation schedules
    • Ensuring required qualifications of preceptor staff including tri-annual review and new preceptor applications
    • Leading Residency Advisory Committee
    • Administering and overseeing an educational environment conducive to training pharmacy residents in each of the defined ASHP competency areas
    • Supervising Acute Care Clinical Pharmacists at KHDO and KHMC
  • Serves as liaison between contracted schools of pharmacy to coordinate advanced practice student rotations within KH
  • Works with Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services and other clinical pharmacy staff to optimize medication effectiveness
  • Responsible for working with medical and clinical pharmacy staff to launch clinical initiatives designed to improve overall patient care and manage drug expense throughout the network
  • Serves as a resource to the organization and medical staff on clinical pharmacy matters
  • Assists in the development and review of medication-use pharmacy and hospital- and system-level policies, and their implementation
  • Guides the design, implementation, and maintenance of clinical pharmacy initiatives within the organization
  • Monitors the external environment for best practices and evaluates them for implementation in the organization
  • Provides ongoing pharmacy education for pharmacy staff and other health care professionals
  • Facilitates availability of educational programs and materials to improve clinical outcomes and regulatory compliance
  • Participates in departmental and interdisciplinary hospital, health system, and regional committees related to emergency medications, drug shortages, adverse events, medication errors, policy review, technology, safe medication use, and patient safety
  • Analyzes current clinical pharmacy data that can be used to improve overall medication value and
  • Works with state colleges of pharmacy for promoting the student and pharmacy residency

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy PGY1 Pharmacy residency

Required Licenses

  • [Ohio, United States] Pharmacist
  • Licensed as, or eligible to be, a registered pharmacist in the State of Ohio. Graduate with a Pharm D. degree

Minimum Work Experience

  • Over 5 years' experience working as a clinical pharmacist Completed residency in clinical pharmacy
  • Current knowledge of federal, state, and local laws governing pharmacists
