Job Summary
Provides troubleshooting, repair, operation, maintenance, development and modernization of the department’s cyclotron, PET scanner and associated radiochemistry or other equipment used in the services provided by the PET department. Collaboration with multiple team members is necessary to identify and implement new technology for improvement of P.E.T. services ultimately improving clinical patient diagnosis and outcomes. Supports maintenance of NMIS radio-pharmacy equipment used by both PET and Nuclear Medicine services. Other duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements
- Associate of Science degree in Biomedical Electronics Technology.
- Certifications as a Certified Biomedical Electronics Technologist (CBET) and a Certified Radiological Equipment Specialist (CRES) by the International Certification Commission for Clinical Engineering and Biomedical Technology.
Skills/Other
- Minimum of two weeks of manufacturer-school training on specific Cyclotron system.
- Extensive additional advanced training and extensive self-study on medical cyclotrons.
- Minimum of ten years work experience specialized with radiological imaging equipment, and at least four years work experience with CT equipment systems in the healthcare environment.
- Manifest advanced skills and abilities in a broad range of engineering and scientific devices.
- Extensive knowledge of ionizing radiation effects on the human body and the methodologies of ionizing radiation safety and protection.
- Comprehensive knowledge of high voltage and electrical safety precautions and procedures, and considerable ability in the interpretation and application of hospital codes, standards, and regulations.
- Demonstrable advanced skill in applying electric/electronic circuit theory and operating principles to effectively diagnose equipment malfunctions.
- Demonstrated ability in effectively troubleshooting and repairing a wide variety of complex biomedical, imaging, laboratory, and Medical Cyclotron systems.
- Demonstrable proficiency in performing preventative maintenance on Medical Cyclotron systems.
- Demonstrable knowledge and proficiency in the use of advanced electronic test and measurement instrumentation.
- Demonstrated ability to fabricate, assemble and install electronic components and assemblies following prints, diagrams, rough sketches or verbal instructions.
- Demonstrated ability in understanding the electronic controls associated with vacuum, pneumatic, magnetic and hydraulic systems and repair them.
- Demonstrated ability in monitoring electronic operating systems to prevent and detect equipment malfunction.
- Knowledge of the theories of operation, the underlying physiological principles, and the practical, safe clinical application of biomedical equipment.
- Knowledge of basic computer theory and skill in effectively using computer systems and applications.
- Knowledge of Cyclotron theory and operation.
- Knowledge of advanced electronic theory and its practical application, physics and various mechanical disciplines.
- Knowledge on radio frequency and magnet systems associated with cyclotrons.
- Skill in the use of tools and materials involved in the repair and maintenance of biomedical equipment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the practices, procedures, methods, tools, materials, and instrumentation associated with the imaging field.
- Advanced skills in interpreting complex wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, and service manuals and specifications.
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in gamma camera repair and preventative maintenance.
- Good communications skills, both oral and written.
