Overview

The APP Informaticist is a specialized healthcare professional responsible for bridging the gap between medical practice and health information technology. This position combines clinical expertise as an APP with a strong understanding of health informatics and data analysis. The APP Informaticist is crucial in optimizing healthcare delivery, enhancing patient outcomes, and leveraging technology to improve efficiency.

The role of an APP Informaticist is at the forefront of healthcare's digital transformation. By leveraging clinical expertise and informatics knowledge, this position contributes to improving patient care, enhancing data-driven decision-making, and advancing the overall quality of healthcare delivery.


APPs new to an Informaticist position will be given time, training, and experience to meet the requirements.

 

Essential Functions:
1. Health Informatics Integration:
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals and IT specialists to integrate health informatics solutions into clinical practice.
- Ensure effective implementation and utilization of electronic health records (EHRs), computerized physician order entry (CPOE) systems, clinical decision support tools, and other relevant technologies.
2. Workflow Analysis and Optimization:
- Evaluate and troubleshoot existing clinical workflows and identify areas for improvement.
- Streamline processes by leveraging technology to enhance efficiency, reduce errors, and increase patient safety.
- Propose and implement workflow modifications, training programs, protocols, technology tools, and innovative ideas to support optimized operations.
3. Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Extract and analyze clinical data from electronic health records and other healthcare information systems.
- Identify patterns, trends, and insights to support evidence-based decision-making and quality improvement initiatives.
- Generate regular reports and presentations to communicate findings to stakeholders.
4. Training and Education:
- Develop and deliver standardized training programs and materials to healthcare professionals on effectively using health informatics tools and systems.
- Educate physicians, nurses, and other staff members on relevant regulations, policies, and best practices related to healthcare technology and data privacy.
- Provide support and document training in Epic (Signal) and or Kettering Health's ticketing system.
5. Collaboration and Consultation:
- Serve as a resource and consultant to clinical teams, offering health informatics and data management expertise.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal utilization of technology for patient care.
- Guide clinical documentation, coding, and billing practices compliant with industry standards.
- Receive and resolve clinical application issues through Kettering Health’s ticketing system.
6. Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Monitor adherence to regulatory requirements, data privacy standards, and meaningful use criteria.
- Conduct audits, assessments, and compliance reviews to ensure data integrity, privacy protection, and system reliability.

 

Minimum Work Experience:
0-3 years of experience in Informatics, support, etc.
 
Required Licenses:
Valid APP license and board certification required.
Epic Certification for Physician Builder or another core Epic Module
 
Required Skills:
Advanced knowledge of health informatics, healthcare information systems, and electronic health records.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and analyze complex clinical data.
Epic Certification for Physician Builder or another core Epic Module- Familiarity with clinical workflows, healthcare terminology, and coding practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
Proficiency in relevant software applications and data analysis tools.
Understanding of healthcare regulations, privacy laws, and security standards.
Experience in training and educating healthcare professionals is preferred.
