The Non-Certified Sleep Technician performs and scores sleep studies under the direct supervision of a credentialed sleep technologist. The Non-Certified Sleep Technician makes special preparation for unique or challenging patients and troubleshoots equipment and sensor problems to ensure a high-quality sleep study. The Non-Certified Sleep Technician is expected to obtain the Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) credential within an agreed-upon time period once eligible. Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Minimum Education
• Completion of high school or equivalent at minimum, Associate’s degree preferred.
• Successful completion of one of the following within the past 3 years as defined by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists:
o CAAHEP or CoARC accredited polysomnography program
o STAR-designated Self-Study program
o STAR-designated Focused education
o STAR-designated Self-Study education AND a STAR-designated Focused 2 program
Minimum Work Experience
• 6 months experience performing sleep studies preferred.
Required Skills
• BLS required although it may be attained after hire.
Required Skills
• Ability to make clinical judgments while working under the supervision of a certified sleep technologist
• Good computer skills – Microsoft Office products and sleep acquisition systems
• Knowledgeable in the use and theory of sleep testing equipment including troubleshooting
• Personable and able to work well with patients, staff, leadership, and providers
