Scheduler II
The Surgery Scheduler schedules all surgical procedures and assures that all of the appropriate clinical and insurance coding information is collected for the surgery schedule. Scheduler receives requests to schedule procedures from physician offices and schedules the procedure according to established guidelines. Scheduler provides accurate information so that all departments may view daily and maintains open communication with hospital departments and physician offices regarding schedule changes. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education
Minimum Work Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of previous scheduling experience in a health care environment (e.g., physician office, clinic or hospital) Coding and pre-certification experience preferred
Required Skills
- • Knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with medical diagnostic procedures, and health care billing and authorization • Strong computer skills. Familiar with Excel, Word, Windows • Must have excellent organizational skills and be detail oriented • Must be highly skilled in verbal communication, problem solving, prioritization and organization • Must be able to effectively handle a high volume of telephone calls and/or activity. • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and work in a high stress environment. • Must be proficient in EPIC
Essential Functions
- • Charts, records, files, and updates with correct demographics, codes, procedures and insurance information; prepares new records, organizes files and maintains records. • Works with providers and patients to obtain medical clearances for patients to have surgery • Schedules complex surgeries and procedures • Answers the phones in a professional and courteous manner • Professionally interacts with patients and their family members regarding scheduling surgery • Completes data entry in a timely and accurate manner • Completes daily surgical schedule and distributes as appropriate • Completes departmental filing • Sorts and distributes incoming and outgoing mail • Assures appropriate coordination with other hospital departments when special surgical needs occur • Maintain files and patient records in a confidential manner. • Collaboratively interacts with hospital surgery schedulers to ensure accurate scheduling takes place and is reflective in physician’s template.
