Responsibilities & Requirements

Medical Technologist, Kettering Medical Center, Hamilton, OH. Utilize understanding of underlying scientific principles of lab testing as well as tech, procedural & problem-solving aspects & demonstrate gen comp of factors that affect health & disease. Recognize importance of proper test selection, numerous causes of discrepant test results & deviations of test results & ethics & perform a full range of chemical, microbiologic, immunologic, hematologic & immunohematologic lab procedures. Perform waived, moderately complex & highly complex testing as defined by CLIA. Perform accurate testing recognizing abnormal or unusual results, report timely results accurately & notify appropriate parties. Prep samples for testing, incl labeling, specimen preservation & transport & safe handling techs. Demonstrate & understand approp handling & reporting of proficiency samples & understand & apply theory of disease process to testing & test results. Perform & record instrument checks & QC & routine equip maintenance & calibration & identify QC issues & initiate proper corrective action. Follow instructions for analyzer op & reagent prep & doc & notify lab leadership. Perform accuracy, precision & correlation studies for new & existing assays & notify care giver of critical results & corrected results & doc notification. Teach procedures & evaluate trainees & review work of medical lab techs, lab assts & students. Demonstrate knowledge of comp functions & dept policies & procedures & actively engage in lab comms & staff meetings. Assist w/supply inventory, purchasing, perf improvement & compliance plan & maintain competency prior to deadlines. Multiple openings. Min req: Bachelor’s in Medical Tech, Medical Lab Science, Biology, or a closely related field including courses in biological science, chemistry & math & ASCP or AMT Certification. Preferred Qualifications

Skills: 

Knowledge and ability to perform testing with accuracy appropriate to the sections in which they work. Knowledge of standardization and quality control theory and ability to troubleshoot without preset criteria. Understanding of safety regulations, regulatory requirements, and statistical methods. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, hospital personnel and physicians.
