The manager acts as the technical supervisor for the molecular and microbiology testing areas. The manager performs a wide variety of administrative, fiscal, and technical activities to ensure the efficient and CAP compliant operation of the molecular and microbiology services. The manager is responsible for the supervision of all testing personnel assigned to the molecular and microbiology services. The molecular and microbiology manager functions as a consultant to the medical staff as well as other health care providers. The manager is responsible for inpatient and outpatient matters as it relates to molecular and microbiology testing responsibilities throughout the laboratory system. The manager collaborates with the Infection Control Program, responsible for the collection, assessment, and analysis of data regarding nosocomial infections, outbreaks and infection prevention. The manager works with the pharmacy department in establishing the antibiotic formulary and disseminating antimicrobial information to the medical staff.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Clinical Laboratory, Medical Technology, Chemical or Biological ScienceMBA or MHA preferred.
Five years of experience within a clinical or specialty laboratory (non-research) with at least two to three years of experience specifically in Molecular or MicrobiologyAt least three years’ experience in a previous leadership role overseeing a combination of personnel and processesKnowledge of accreditation and regulatory compliance of laboratory operations.

Work with laboratory director and hospital administration on planning and organizing laboratory operations and ensuring compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.
• Make daily rounds in the lab to connect with the team and ensure support for the effectiveness of operations, utilization, personnel, supplies, and general ethical and professional atmosphere.
• In conjunction with Director of Laboratory Services, develops and recommends department operating budget. Ensures that department operates within budget.
• Makes recommendations to Director of Laboratory Services regarding purchase of capital equipment. Completes pro forma and prepares budget request for capital equipment as directed by the Director of Laboratory Services.
• Makes recommendations to the Director of Laboratory Services and/or Pathologists regarding changes and/or additions to laboratory test procedures.
• Keeps abreast of new medical advances and integrates new developments into the laboratory's long and short-term plans.
• Reviews and trends Quality Metrics and Safety Reporting Issues collaborating with local and network laboratory leadership to develop action plans for identified issues.
• Monitor Employee Engagement utilizing Employee Engagement surveys and department purposeful rounding to evaluate employee engagement and develop action plans around identified concerns.
• Gives presentations to the medical staff, nursing service, and other departments as requested.
• Serves as a consultant to the medical staff and is available for participation in medical education programs as requested.
• Attends laboratory manager meetings as scheduled.
• Participates on hospital committees as assigned.
• Assures adequate staffing for the expected workload.
• Responsible for overall personnel development, training and motivation.
• Accountable for productivity in sections of responsibility.
• Interviews, hires, evaluates, and terminates employees.
• Manages and directs the department's interaction with colleges, training programs, and individual students.

• Ensures that all laboratory personnel maintain the certification required for their assigned duties and that all continuing education requirements are completed. Handles all complaints regarding service problems in sections of responsibility.
• Coordinates ordering supplies and determines the most efficient and economical utilization of supplies in accordance with laboratory policy.
