Responsibilities & Requirements

The Patient Registration I role supports patient care and operational reliability by accurately registering patients, verifying insurance, and ensuring all required documentation is completed in accordance with regulatory standards. This position serves as a first point of contact, providing excellent customer service to patients and visitors while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with organizational policies. Performs other duties as assigned. All job responsibilities are to be carried out in alignment with Kettering Health's mission, vision, values, and B Safe program.

 

Required Education 

  • High school diploma or GED

Required Work Experience

  • At least 1 year of experience in a healthcare administrative or customer service role. 

Skills

  • Proficiency in computer systems and data entry
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Basic understanding of insurance and healthcare processes

Essential Functions

  • Accurately collect and enter patient demographic, insurance, and contact information into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
  • Verify patient identity and insurance eligibility, ensuring data integrity and preventing duplicate records.
  • Obtain and document necessary consents, authorizations, and signatures for treatment and billing purposes.
  • Provide clear information to patients regarding financial responsibilities, co-pays, deductibles, and payment options; collect payments as applicable.
  • Greet patients and visitors, answer questions, and provide directions or assistance within the facility.
  • Schedule, reschedule, or cancel patient appointments in alignment with provider availability and patient needs.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA, OSHA, and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to support efficient patient flow and resolve registration related issues.
  • Monitor and address incomplete or inaccurate registration information, following up with patients or payers as needed.
  • Participate in required training and continuous learning to stay current with healthcare regulations and technology updates. 

Competencies

  • Review an account for quality and confirmation and can demonstrate the ability to update all aspects of a patient account
  • Assist patients with the completion of Financial Assistance Forms, HCAP Application and Medicaid Applications (if applicable)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all compliance or legally required registration forms, consents, literature and documents
  • Employee demonstrates consistent hand hygiene practices 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree in healthcare administration or related field.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities.
