Responsibilities & Requirements

The Ultrasound Tech II performs advanced diagnostic ultrasound examinations to support accurate diagnosis and treatment, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and quality imaging. This role collaborates with physicians and care teams, assists in complex procedures, and upholds regulatory and accreditation standards. Performs other duties as assigned. All job responsibilities are to be carried out in alignment with Kettering Health's mission, vision, values, and B Safe program.

 

Required Education

  • Associate degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or a closely related field from an accredited program 

Required Work Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year experience as a registered ultrasound technologist 

Required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations

  • Certification in multiple registries through one or more of the following credentialing organizations: the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Sonography (ARRT(S)), or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (must be obtained prior to independent patient care)

  • Proficiency in performing and interpreting a variety of ultrasound procedures

  • Ability to analyze images and document findings accurately
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, infection control, and safety protocols
  • Ability to mentor and train others
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced clinical environment 

Essential Functions 

  • Perform comprehensive and specialized ultrasound examinations, including complex procedures as appropriate to training and certification.
  • Prepare, position, and educate patients for ultrasound procedures, ensuring safety, privacy, and comfort.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain ultrasound equipment to obtain high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Analyze sonographic images, identify normal and abnormal findings, and document results in the electronic health record.
  • Communicate preliminary findings to radiologists, cardiologists or referring providers as directed by protocol.
  • Assist physicians during invasive procedures by providing real-time imaging guidance and ensuring aseptic technique. 
  • Adhere to established protocols, regulatory standards, and infection control procedures to ensure patient and staff safety.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, including image review, equipment checks, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and ensure confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policy.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to students and less experienced technologists as assigned.
  • Respond to urgent or emergent imaging needs in a timely and professional manner.
  • Participate in continuing education and maintain required certifications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or related field
  • Experience in specialized areas such as vascular, obstetric, or cardiac sonography 
  • Additional certifications such as Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)
