The Lead Echo Vascular Tech performs advanced echocardiographic and vascular ultrasound procedures to support accurate diagnosis and quality patient care. This role guides daily workflow, provides informal mentorship to imaging staff, and upholds quality and safety standards in accordance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. Performs other duties as assigned. All job responsibilities are to be carried out in alignment with Kettering Health's mission, vision, values, and B Safe program.
Essential Functions:
Perform advanced echocardiographic and vascular ultrasound procedures in accordance with physician orders and established protocols. Lead daily workflow for the echo vascular imaging team, prioritizing cases and coordinating with other departments as needed. Provide informal guidance, training, and support to technologists and new staff to promote skill development and consistent practice standards. Monitor image quality and implement quality assurance measures to ensure diagnostic accuracy and regulatory compliance. Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to review and clarify imaging results and contribute to patient care planning. Maintain and troubleshoot imaging equipment, coordinating repairs and preventive maintenance to minimize downtime. Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and accreditation standards for patient safety, infection control, and confidentiality. Document procedures, findings, and patient information accurately in the electronic health record (EHR). Participate in departmental meetings, continuing education, and process improvement initiatives. Serve as a resource for resolving technical or workflow issues within the imaging team.
Required Education:
Associate degree in diagnostic medical sonography, cardiovascular technology, or a related allied health field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a health science or related field.
Required Work Experience:
Three years of experience performing echocardiography and/or vascular ultrasound procedures in a clinical setting.
Preferred Work Experience:
Five or more years of experience in echocardiography and vascular imaging, including experience providing informal guidance or training to peers.
Required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations:
Current certification as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) and/or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or equivalent.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at hire.
Preferred Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations:
Additional certification as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS).
